GORF Social Projects:

These are the GORF social networks. Join one or join them all.

  • GORF.PUB - Twitter-like micro-blogging site built with Pleroma and the GORF-FE user interface. 100% free speech site but no nudity or sexually explicit content is allowed. It is fully connected to the Fediverse so it is possible to be exposed to content that doesn't meet our site standards.
  • GORF.SPACE - Facebook/Twitter-like micro-blogging site built with GORF-AP. GORF Space is dedicated to free speech but no nudity or sexually explicit content is allowed. It is fully connected to the Fediverse so it is possible to be exposed to content that doesn't meet our site standards.
  • GORF.SOCIAL - Facebook/Twitter-like micro-blogging site built from scratch by the GORF team. It is currently in development but please feel free to check it out and let us know what you think. We are working on a new protocol for social networks. We do not recommend this as your permanent home because your account may be lost or destroyed with new version releases. GORF Social is dedicated to free speech but no nudity or sexually explicit content is allowed. It is not YET connected to the Fediverse so you will hopefully not be exposed to any content that doesn't meet our site standards but if you do please report it.
  • ONEWAY.com - Twitter-like micro-blogging site built with Mastodon and the GORF-FE user interface. ONEWAY is Christian social network dedicated to free speech but no nudity or sexually explicit content or vulgar language is allowed. It is not connected to the Fediverse so you will hopefully not be exposed to any content that doesn't meet our site standards but if you do please report it.
  • GORF.TUBE - Youtube-like video streaming site built with PeerTube. GORF Tube is dedicated to free speech but no nudity or sexually explicit content is allowed. We hand select other instances to connect with in the Fediverse who meet our site standards so hopefully you won't be exposed to any content that doesn't meet our site standards but if you do then please report it.
  • FORUMS.GORF.COM - Reddit clone using activityPub protocol.

Create Your Own:

You have several options for the software you chose to use and even the user interface design but just remember that they can all communicate with each other because they all use the activityPub protocol. We know it can be a bit confusing to understand but just think of them like email applications that can all send and receive messages to each other.

  • Mastodon - Free and open-source software for running self-hosted social networking services. It has microblogging features similar to the Twitter service, which are offered by a large number of independently run Mastodon nodes (known as "instances"), each with its own code of conduct, terms of service, privacy options, and moderation policies.
  • Pleroma - Microblogging server software that can federate (= exchange messages with) other servers that support ActivityPub. Pleroma will federate with all servers that implement ActivityPub, like Friendica, GNU Social, Hubzilla, Mastodon, Misskey, Peertube, and Pixelfed. Pleroma is written in Elixir and uses PostgresSQL for data storage.
  • Misskey - Decentralized microblogging platform using ActivityPub protocol and developed with NodeJS and PostgresSQL. It has the most features of all the other similar applications but may not be suitable for very large instances.
  • GORF-AP - A fork of Misskey fully translated into English with ongoing improvements in performance and styles.
  • PeerTube - Decentralized alternative to video streaming platforms such as YouTube using activityPub Protocol.
  • PixelFed - Decentralized alternative to Instagram using activityPub Protocol.
  • Lemmy - Decentralized alternative to Reddit using activityPub protocol.
  • Lenny - Fork of Lemmy that respects users by not trying to control their speech.

Design Your Own:

  • GORF-FE - Twitter like Pleroma and Mastodon front end, user interface.
  • Soapbox - Front end, user interface for Pleroma.

Get A Managed Social Network:

Have someone else create and manage your own social network.

  • Mastohost - Fully managed Mastodon hosting.
  • CofeSpace - Fully managed Pleroma hosting.
  • Digital Ocean - Digital Ocean isn't managed but they do make it very easy to install and perform backups. This would require about the same amount of skills as setting up a WordPress site.
  • Toot Hosting - Mastodon managed hosting service located in Germany.
  • Maastodon Hosting - One of the first Mastodon managed hosting providers and former host of Mastodon.Social, the site owned by the developer of Mastodon.
